This blogger, Jess, however, knows NOTHING about gardening! I have become a sort of work in progress.
Gardening for Beginners
It started last summer when Sue and Evelyn let me play with the weeds; yeah I got to weed all those trees around Sterling Ridge Resort – how fun! Evelyn showed me what was a weed and what was not and a lot of the time it was right before I pulled out an actual flower, oops.
For my first lesson with my two teachers, they have put a garden rake, that I found out are the triangular shaped plastic ones and not the rectangular shaped metal ones, in my hand and sent me out to become a student of gardening.
The Rewards of Gardening
It is hard work, but very rewarding. I found myself dreading digging, raking and sticking my hands in the dirt. By the time I got to the end of the “stone wall project” I was hooked. I still call sedum the broccoli flower but I am on my way.
I am slowly learning what the flowers are. We all, including Eric and Scott, take pride in our grounds here at Sterling Ridge. From the new sugarbush to the perennials that pop up every year, without a skilled and enthusiastic team, Sterling Ridge Resort would be a bit less colorful.
Blooming now we have tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and lilacs are about to start. What will be popping up next? Check out our next blog installment!
